Eine Frau in Doha
Stefanie Dötzer beim Aljazeera English Channel in Doha

Portrait Stefanie Dötzer
In 2010, I visited Doha, Qatar for the first time. There I had the opportunity to photograph the only German staff member at Al Jazeera English.
Together, we explored a number of fascinating sites. Feel free to take a look at the photo essay on Doha’s only Catholic church.

Al Jazeera Media Network
Al Jazeera English is the English-language arm of the Al Jazeera Media Network. It was launched on 15 November 2006 by the Al Jazeera Network—under the patronage of Qatar’s then-Emir, Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani—to provide an alternative global news perspective to outlets like CNN and the BBC.
As of 2025, AJE operates from broadcast hubs in Doha, London, Kuala Lumpur, and Washington, D.C., reaching over 400 million households worldwide via satellite, cable, and digital platforms. It’s renowned for in-depth, frontline reporting—especially from conflict zones and on under-covered stories—and continues to expand its online streaming and on-demand services for global audiences.
